West Holmes Schools Recognized for Superior Energy EfficiencyPosted on 8/18/2015 Six Schools within the West Holmes Local School District are now ENERGY STAR certified. MILLERSBURG, OHIO – August 2015 – West Holmes Local Schools has been working with the CCG on energy conservation projects since 2002 when a House Bill 264 project was performed at West Holmes High School to improve energy efficiency and building comfort. In 2007 a similar project was completed at West Holmes Middle School. Following the success of these projects, CCG has since provided building automation system (BAS) controls upgrades throughout all of the buildings in the district. The results of these efforts have earned national attention from the EPA. Six of the education buildings in the West Holmes Local School District have earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR certification. This distinction signifies that the buildings perform in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meet strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA. The West Holmes schools that received the certification are: Beth Cybulski of CCG presented the West Holmes Board of Education with the official certifications and building signage during the monthly board meeting on Monday, August 17, 2015. “These accomplishments show that even older buildings can achieve high energy efficiency ratings. The staff at all of the West Holmes buildings should be proud of this distinction,” Cybulski said. According to Superintendent Bill Sterling, “The ENERGY STAR labels are a great accomplishment for the district and proof that the administration and staff are focused on providing quality facilities for our students. We thank CCG for their efforts in helping the district to achieve this prestigious status.” “Of the more than 3,150 educational buildings in Ohio, only 9 percent have attained the impressive ENERGY STAR certification. This is a huge honor for West Holmes Local School District with six of its buildings now certified,” commented Brian Wagner, president of CCG. Buildings that earn the EPA ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The EPA ENERGY STAR energy performance scale helps organizations assess how efficiently their buildings use energy relative to similar buildings nationwide. A building that scores a 75 or higher on the EPA 1-100 scale may be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification.
