Keystone High School Receives the Prestigious ENERGY STAR AwardPosted on 9/2/2011 Smart Systems and Innovative Controls Lead School to Environmental Protection Agency Recognition (Richfield, OH) September 2, 2011– The Keystone High School has received the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR Award. An ENERGY STAR certified building meets strict energy performance standards set forth by EPA and uses less energy, is less expensive to operate, and causes fewer greenhouse gas emissions than its peers. As part of their new construction, CCG Automation, Inc. installed an Automated Logic Corporation® WebCTRL© building automation system to control all major pieces of HVAC equipment as well as monitoring humidity and CO2 levels. CCG’s innovative approach to sequencing and analyzing trends has played an instrumental part in these schools becoming ENERGY STAR labeled. These concepts have enabled the schools to keep utility costs low while ensuring a comfortable, quality indoor environment for students and staff. The combination of the building improvements, CCG’s innovative approach to building operations, and the district’s commitment to energy reduction has enabled the school to lower utility costs while maintaining comfortable classrooms for students and staff, thus earning them the ENERGY STAR label. Fewer than 100 K-12 buildings in Ohio have received the ENERGY STAR certification, and Keystone High School is the first building in its district to be honored by this recognition.
The ENERGY STAR rating of the high school is a 78. This means that the building is performing 78 percent better than all K-12 buildings nationwide.
School buildings that have earned the ENERGY STAR award use nearly 40 percent less energy than average buildings and emit 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, offering a significantly smaller carbon footprint.
