North Royalton High School Energy Savings Measures Exceed ExpectationsPosted on 1/13/2009 In October of 2007, North Royalton High School implemented an energy-savings project with CCG. When the project first started, the annual projected savings were $40,846. One year after the project was completed the actual project savings totaled $88,618, exceeding the original estimate by $47,772. With energy consumption at 57,823 btu/sq. ft./year, the building earns an ENERGY STAR® Rating of 78 by EPA guidelines. The district decided to implement a House Bill 264 Energy Conservation Program to make much needed building improvements. The project includes energy-savings measure such as boiler replacements, classroom HVAC upgrades, upgrades to gymnasium lighting and HVAC control expansions. By implementing the House Bill 264 Program, the district was able to fund the energy project using the cost savings from the improvements. No additional taxpayer funds were needed. North Royalton High School now qualifies to apply for the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Award. Any building with a rating over 75 can apply for the prestigious award. School buildings that have earned the award in the past use nearly 40 percent less energy than average buildings. They also emit 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, offering a significantly smaller carbon footprint. These facilities excel due to good energy management practices, such as routine energy-efficiency benchmarking. |
