Hudson City Schools - District Re-Opens House Bills 264 for Phase II
Posted on 8/11/2009
The fall of 2007 brought Hudson City School District to the completion of a very successful energy conservation project utilizing House Bill 264 with CCG. One year after completion of the project the district saved a total of $326,963 exceeding the original projection by $102,838. Under the guidelines of Ohio House Bill 264, a district is able to re-open the project using the excess savings to fund further energy efficiency improvements. That is exactly what the Hudson City Schools plan to do with a second contract awarded to CCG, Inc.
Phase II will further reduce utility consumption while maintaining comfort levels and saving the district a projected $31,820 annually. This phase of the project will include the following Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs); boiler and heating plant upgrades at Hudson High School; control upgrades at Hudson Middle School, East Woods Elementary, Evamere Elementary and McDowell Elementary; rooftop unit upgrades to the middle school; and heating upgrades at Evamere.
Hudson City School District has shown dedication to conserving energy throughout their district resulting in a smaller carbon footprint and lower utility bills. This dedication has resulted in McDowell Elementary and Ellsworth Hill Elementary being ENERGY STAR® labeled buildings. With the completion of Phase II, it is expected that additional schools in the Hudson City School District will qualify for the EPA ENERGY STAR label.
The project was funded using Qualified School Construction Bonds (QSCB’s). These federally funded tax-subsidizing loans offer interest rates as low as zero percent through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
