Hudson High School Recognized with EPA's Energy Star

Posted on 9/24/2009

Hudson City Schools - Hudson High School has been awarded the ENERGY STAR® designation from the Environmental Protection Agency. Only 38 school buildings in Ohio have received the certification. In addition, Hudson High School is the third school in the Hudson City School District to earn the prestigious ENERGY STAR.

In 2007 Hudson City School District completed an Energy Conservation Program (Ohio School Facilities Commission House Bill 264 Project) with CCG, Inc. The combination of the Hudson City Schools dedication and diligence to energy conservation and the improvements from the project enabled Hudson High School to qualify for the ENERGY STAR Award.

School buildings that have earned the ENERGY STAR Award use nearly 40 percent less energy than average buildings and emit 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, offering a significantly smaller carbon footprint. Buildings excel due to good energy management practices such as routine energy efficiency benchmarking.

ENERGY STAR was introduced by the EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Only 8,047 buildings nationwide have earned the ENERGY STAR Award, and just 2,014 of these are school buildings. Other buildings include supermarkets, office, hotels, banks, hospitals, courthouses, warehouses, dormitories and big-box retail buildings.
