Twinsburg City Schools Receives Incentive Check from FirstEnergy
Posted on 6/13/2012
Twinsburg City Schools received an incentive check in the amount of $88,103 from FirstEnergy under its Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency Rider (DSE2) program. The check was for the energy efficiency upgrades performed under the recent House Bill 264 project with CCG, Inc. at Twinsburg High School. The nationally recognized award-winning project included lighting upgrades, building automation upgrades and mechanical upgrades.
The DSE2 is a result of the Ohio Senate Bill 221 passed in 2008. The bill set standards for demand reduction totaling 22.2 percent by 2025 for all of Ohio’s electric utility companies. A rider, or surcharge, is assessed on each kWh consumed on all FirstEnergy customers to assist in the implementation of the demand reduction program. Mercantile customers who perform energy efficiency upgrades have the option of either avoiding the rider or receiving an upfront rebate check. The amount of the incentive is based on the energy reductions realized.
A mercantile customer is a commercial or industrial customer who uses more than 700,000 kWh per year for non-residential purposes, or who is part of a national account that includes multiple facilities in one or more states.
In addition to the rebate check, Twinsburg City Schools realized $404,362 in gas and electric savings in the first year of the House Bill 264 energy conservation project.
