Olmsted Falls City Schools Saves on Utilities Thanks to House Bill 264

Posted on 10/21/2013

Olmsted Falls City School District recently completed an energy conservation project with CCG in its 167,833 square foot High School Complex, under the guidelines of Ohio School Facilities Commissions House Bill 264.  The House Bill 264 legislation allows K-12 schools to borrow money to make improvements towards energy efficiency for buildings and use the cost savings to pay back the loan.

The project included hot water heating system upgrades, as well as the installation of Automated Logic’s WebCTRL® state-of-the-art building automation system.  The maintenance department recently completed training detailing how the system operates, and reports they are excited to be able to more effectively control their systems throughout the building.

The program will realize annual savings of $10,120 in electric costs and $37,243 in gas costs.  Annual operational savings are $2,750, or 5% of total savings. Total savings for the project, over the 15-year term, are estimated at $791,748. Additional savings will be realized by applying for and obtaining a sewer exemption for irrigation water at the High School.  This will be achieved by installing a secondary water meter on the main irrigation line used to maintain practice fields near the facility.
