Lake Local Schools Completes Energy Conservation Project

Posted on 11/25/2013

Lake Local Schools recently completed an energy conservation project with CCG under the guidelines of Ohio School Facilities Commissions House Bill 264.  The House Bill 264 legislation allows K-12 schools to borrow money to make improvements towards energy efficiency for buildings and use the cost savings to pay back the loan.

The project incorporated multiple buildings, including:  the High School complex (which consists of a traditional High School, Community Center, Administration Building, YMCA Center, and Medical Center),  the Middle School, Uniontown Elementary School, the Athletic Complex and the Bus Garage.  The total square footage addressed with this project was 688,992 ft2.

Lighting Upgrades were made in the High School, Bus Garage and Athletic Complex. New stadium lighting was included in the project by request of the district due to the age and insecurity of the existing wood poles, which were a serious safety concern.

Building automation upgrades were made throughout multiple buildings, and upon completion, there is now a single web-based automation system, Automated Logic, controlling the entire Complex.  Multiple mechanical upgrades were also completed, including converting the Community Center’s indirect gas-fired rooftop units to hot water units, and tying the existing 400 wing boiler systems into the existing high efficiency central plant currently serving the Community Center.

“We are excited to see all of the upgrades completed at Lake Local Schools,” said Brian Wagner, president of CCG. “Students and staff will benefit from the increased comfort level, and the entire community will benefit from the cost savings.”

The cost of the project was $4,072,980.  The school district will realize annual savings of $188,230 in electric costs, $178,939 in gas costs and $11,378 in operational savings. Total annual savings for the project is estimated at $378,546.
